Bird fair returning to the Valley

STAFF REPORT

LIBERTY — The Ohio Bird Fair has come to the Mahoning Valley for a decade — and it will be here again this month.

“I took over the bird fair a year and a half ago,” said Rus Tyson, owner. “We’ve continued to stay right there in Youngstown.”

The show is popular in the Valley, he said.

Today’s bird fair gives visitors the chance to buy exotic pet birds and bird supplies.

“But you’re paying below pet-shop prices,” Tyson said.

The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MetroPlex Hotel and Conference Center.

Vendors from Ohio, Pittsburgh and as far away as Maryland will offer bird lovers a selection of pet-bird supplies, including bird cages, bird seed, supplements and toys. Birds also will be available for purchase.

Visitors to the bird fair will have the chance to win bird cages, toys and supplies during hourly raffles, Tyson said. One visitor will win the door prize: a $30 gas card.

Tyson hosts bird shows throughout the state. He also operates the Exotic Bird Fair Expo, which has shows in other areas, including Pittsburgh.

Admission is $3 per person. Children 9 and under get in free.
