Area towing company wins award

CORTLAND — A tow truck owned by Harry “Bud” Rodgers, owner of Bud’s Towing, was recently selected by Tow Times Magazine as the first-place winner in the Medium Duty Class of Shine n’ Star Contest.

Entries are from 47 states, three Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico. Rodgers won with his favorite tow truck named by his late father, Harry Rodgers Sr., “White Lightning.”

As the first-place winner, Rodgers receives $500, and his truck will grace the front cover of Tow Times Magazine.

Rodgers’ winning tow truck is a 2003 Ford F-650 Chevron 1014 Twin Line wrecker unit with an aluminum bed. Graphics for “White Lightning” were designed locally by HEI, Inc. of Cortland.

Pat Hile, Joe Powell and Bob McElrath of Mercer, Pa., custom built the truck. Rodgers has eight other trucks in his fleet.
