Benefit games on tap

Several area basketball teams will be participating in OHSAA-sponsored Foundation games this week.

Austintown Fitch and Boardman will be part of an eight-game series between the Federal League and the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

On Wednesday, Fitch will play host to Louisville, with a girls varsity game at 6 p.m., followed by the boys varsity game.

That same night Boardman will play at West Branch in the same format.

The Federal League-NBC games will benefit Hoops 4 Healing, which promotes liver disease research.

Struthers will play host to Youngstown Christian on Friday night, starting at 6 p.m.

Those games will benefit the Ellen Becker Fund and the Doris and Ed Lancy Struthers Ladycat Girls Basketball Scholarship Fund.

Becker, a 2009 graduate of Struthers who played softball, was seriously injured in a car accident in August and has a long recovery.

Doris Lancy was a longtime supporter of Struthers athletics and served as a coach and scorekeeper. She passed away in August.

On Monday, the South Range girls basketball teams played host to Brookfield, benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank.
