YOUNGSTOWN — Police in North Miami, Fla., are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of a Valley man.

Details remain sketchy, and an officer in the Miami department said Sunday that investigators today may be able to provide more information on the shooting death of a popular disk jockey.

Robert Tombo, 48, was found in a van in a parking lot about noon Thursday in Claude Pepper Park.

Video from security cameras show Tombo sitting behind the wheel of a white van parked so the driver could watch the parking lot.

A first cousin, Frank Tombo of Poland, said the security footage shows a person approaching the window of the van. Video then shows the front of the van surrounded by law enforcement.

Frank Tombo said he had not talked to his cousin for about a year.

Robert Tombo had gone through a divorce, which involved his business, RT Audio Inc., Frank Tombo said.

The victim had planned to restart his audio program in the South, he added.

“That kid was as straight and level as could be,” he said.

He added that Robert had two daughters from his former marriage. He had remarried and had a daughter from that relationship.

Robert Tombo had been named an honorary sheriff by Mahoning County Sheriff Sheriff Randall Wellington. Wellington did not return calls Sunday evening to comment.

“He was very focused. He did very well,” Frank Tombo said.
