Akron 63, Drake 59

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Anthony Hitchens scored all of his 17 points in the second half and Akron got its first win. Hitchens 3-pointer with 2:08 left put Akron (1-2) ahead for good, and he assisted on Darryl Roberts jump shot in the final minute to seal the victory in the Glenn Wilkes Classic. The Zips, who represented the Mid-American Conference last season in the NCAA Tournament, had gotten off to their first 0-2 start in more than a decade. Drake (1-3) led 33-27 at halftime on the strength of its 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range. The Bulldogs held a 42-33 advantage before the Zips went on a 10-0 run.

Ball State 57, SIU-Edwardsville 47

MUNCIE, Ind. — Jarrod Jones scored 19 points and Jauwan Scaife added 12 for Ball State. Terrence Watson had eight points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals (2-0) David Boarden had 14 points for SIU-Edwardsville (1-5). Mark Yelovich added nine points and 11 rebounds.

Fairleigh Dickinson 62, Central Michigan 53

TEANECK, N.J. — Alvin Mofunanya scored 22 points to lead Fairleigh Dickinson. Mofunanya also added nine rebounds and six blocks for the Knights (1-2), and Sean Baptiste chipped in with 18 points. Fairleigh Dickinson took a 10-point lead midway through the first half after Baptiste hit a 3-pointer with 11:37 remaining to make the score 19-9. Two free throws from Terence Grier with 41 seconds left in the half pushed the lead to 35-21, and the Knights held a 35-23 lead at halftime.

Buffalo 78, Towson 69, OT

TOWSON, Md. — Rodney Pierce scored 18 points to lead Buffalo. Pierce shot 7-for-18 from the field for the Bulls (2-1). Calvin Betts added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while John Boyer dished out 12 assists. Towson (1-1) trailed by seven points with less than 3 minutes remaining in the second half when they went on a 7-0 scoring run to tie the game at 65-all. Troy Franklin’s 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining capped the Tigers’ spree, and a missed layup by Pierce at the buzzer forced the game into overtime.

Eastern Michigan 76, Maryland-Eastern Shore 51

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Justin Dobbins scored 19 points to lead Eastern Michigan in the second round of the Hispanic College Fund Challenge at Missouri State University. Eastern Shore (0-4) struggled from the field all night.
