Cleveland State 80, Sam Houston State 65

CLEVELAND — Norris Cole scored 24 points and had six assists to lead Cleveland State. Cole was 6-for-10 from the field as the Vikings (3-1), who never trailed, shot 25-for-47 from the field (53.2 percent). Cole also was 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Sam Houston State (2-2) cut the score to 68-61 on Josten Crow’s free throws with 3:33 remaining in the game, but Trevon Harmon hit a layup and Tim Kamczyc hit a jumper to extend the advantage to 72-61 with 2:14 left. Cole hit four consecutive free throws to pad the lead to 80-63 with 52 seconds remaining. Harmon added 16 points and Jared Cunningham scored 10 for Cleveland State, which was 9-for-13 from 3-point range (69.2 percent). Preston Brown and Lance Pevehouse scored 13 points each for Sam Houston State.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee 62, Hillsdale 54

MILWAUKEE — James Eayrs scored 21 points and Ricky Franklin put up a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeated Division II Hillsdale. Brent Eaton scored 19 points for the Chargers (0-3), but no one else had more than six, though Tyler Gerber had 10 assists. Down 33-19 at halftime, the Chargers used a 9-1 run out of the locker room to trim it to 34-28. They closed within 35-34 on Eaton’s 3-pointer with 15:25 to go before the Panthers regrouped and pulled away. Milwaukee (2-2) outshot Hillsdale 45.5 percent to 34.5 percent and outrebounded the visitors 33-27. Patrick Souter and Lonnie Boga scored seven apiece for the Panthers.

Long Beach State 81, Wisconsin-Green Bay 69

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Stephan Gilling scored 22 points to lead Long Beach State. The 49ers (3-1) shot 63 percent from the field in the second half, making 15 of 24 shots, and were at 54 percent for the game. Larry Anderson scored 17 points and Eugene Phelps 15 for Long Beach State. Gilling was 6 of 14 from 3-point range and Anderson 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. Wisconsin-Green Bay (4-2) had five players in double figures. Randy Berry and Troy Cotton had 16 points each for the Phoenix.
