Holiday events will raise funds for Akron Children’s Hospital

BOARDMAN — The Kids’ Crew of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is planning holiday events to benefit the hospital.

“A Children’s Holiday” tree lighting and first anniversary celebration will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in Building C on the hospital’s Beeghly Campus, 6505 Market St.

The event will feature cocoa, cookies and carols and the lighting of the tree at 6 p.m. Activities for children will include face painting, and cookie and ornament decorating. The celebration is free and open to the public. Hosting the event are the Woman’s Board of Youngstown, Eat’n Park, and Pioneer Trails Tree Farm.

For $10, donors can sponsor a light on the tree in honor of a child. Contact JoAnn Stock, Akron Children’s Director of Development, at (330) 746-9122. The program will list all recognized children.

The second event, “Holiday Hopes and Wishes,” will take place at the Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road in Poland, on Dec. 11.

A social hour and shopping begin at 10:30 a.m., and a luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. A cash bar will be available.

Vendor boutiques include BeautiControl Cosmetics, Cabi, LS Baskets and Gifts, Premier Jewelry, Reflection Wellness Center and Suzanne’s Tennis and Golf.

Also featured will be a basket raffle, including four Disney Park Hopper passes, the new American Girl Doll (Rebecca), unique holiday decorations, Waterford Snowflake gift boxes, and many other gifts.

A special prize, donated by Denise DeBartolo York, will be a basket that includes two tickets to the 49ers-Philadelphia Eagles game to take place Dec. 20 in Philadelphia.

The cost to attend is $25 per person, and reservations are required. Charitable donations are most welcome. Invitations are available at www.akronchildrens.org/mv or by calling (330) 746-9122.

Media celebrity hostesses for the luncheon include Niki Weirich of WYTV, Cindy Matthews, Mona Alexander and Madonna Chism Pinkard of WFMJ, Amy Radinovic of WKBN and Barbara Shaffer and Nena Perkins of The Vindicator.

Committees for both events include Donna Hayat, Gayle Kelly, Lori Mowad, Paula Barrett, Kathy Dwinnells, Ingrid Lundquist, Linda Siegle, Michele Duffet, Carolyn Albert, Sauni Cianciola, Donna Cailor, Barbara Tinkham and Julie Costas.

All proceeds benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

The Kids’ Crew is a committee of community volunteers who assist with hospital-sponsored special events and other fundraising activities. Membership is open to all those 18 or older.
