Coaches: Cindy Martin (Florida, ’99) is in her second season with the Penguins. She went 3-27 a year ago and is 73-53 in her five-year coaching career. Terry Zeh is 92-64 in his sixth season with the Golden Griffins.

YSU starters: Macey Nortey, 5-foot-3 sophomore guard (5.6 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game); Bojana Dimitrov, 5-7 junior guard (15.7, 3); Kenya Middlebrooks, 5-8 sophomore guard (3, 2.7); Brandi Brown, 5-11 freshman forward (6.7, 3); Rachael Manuel, 6-3 senior center (1.9, 1.3)

Outlook: The Penguins suffered two straight losses to open the season in North Carolina. They dropped an 86-66 contest to Elon and then suffered a 73-50 setback to High Point. In their home opener, the Penguins lost to Kent State, 70-55. Dimitrov scored 15 points against the Golden Flashes. Nortey and Middlebrooks scored 20 and 12 points, respectively, against Kent State. Both were career highs.

The series: Canisius leads the series, 4-1. Last year, YSU lost 56-38 at Canisius. The Golden Griffins have three new starters. Forward Ellie Radke is averaging 16.5 points.

Up next: On Thursday, YSU will travel to the UTEP Thanksgiving Tournament in El Paso, Texas, where they will take on Louisiana-Monroe in the opening round on Friday. Saturday, the Penguins will play in the program’s 900th game.
