Thiel 89, Penn State Beaver 71

PITTSBURGH — Former Kennedy Catholic High standouts Blair Rozenblad and Aundra Jones led Thiel. Rozenblad, a freshman, scored 18 points and Jones had 13 off the bench. Devon Adams, of George Jr. Republic, had game-highs of 21 points and nine rebounds as Thiel had five players score in double figures. Sean Devinney and Cory Chaffee finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Notre Dame (Ohio) 91, Westminster 60

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Freshman guard Ron Martino (Mooney) led the Titans (0-3) with a career-high 14 points, including 10 in the second half, in the 18th annual Buzz Ridl Classic at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. Martino shot 5-8 from the floor and dished out a team-high three assists and tied team highs with four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Cameron McCleary (Newton Falls) converted 4 of 7 shot attempts from 3-point range and finished with 12 points. Eric Dummermuth led the Falcons (5-0) with 27 points on 11-14 shooting to go with 15 rebounds. Al Miller and Curtis McClure each bucketed 14 points.

Bethany 111, Pitt-Titusville 50

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Fourteen players scored for Bethany, which bolted to a 57-30 halftime lead and then held Pitt-Titusville to 20 second-half points in the second night of the Hilltopper Classic at West Liberty University. It was the first win for new Bison head coach Andrew Sachs and the 61-point margin marks the third-largest in Bethany history behind only an 81-point triumph last year over Penn State-Fayette (112-31) and a 62-point victory in 1964 over Allegheny (110-48). Jay Lyonett connected on all five 3-point attempts in Saturday’s triumph to finish with a team-high 17 points and also handed out a game-high six assists.

Defiance College 80, Mount Union 67

ADRIAN, Mich. — Mount Union sophomore Wes Knavel came off the bench and had the first double-double of his career with 17 points and 10 rebounds but it was not enough as the Raiders took their first loss at the Adrian College Tournament. Knavel was one of three players to score in double figures as junior Dave Pellerite also had 17 points and sophomore Jimmy Wood had 13 points for Mount Union (1-1). Logan Wolfrum went 6-for-6 on three pointers and had a game-high 28 points for Defiance (2-0).

WOMEN

Capital 68, Westminster 38

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Dolsak sisters led the Titans (0-3) in scoring as senior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald) scored a game-high nine points, while sophomore forward Emily Dolsak bucketed eight points to go with a team-high six rebounds. Meagan McCalla had nine points to lead Capital (1-1), who are ranked No. 22 in the nation by D3Hoops.com.

Penn State Behrend 80, Grove City 57

ERIE, Pa. — Four Grove City players scored in double figures but the Wolverines could not overcome 29 turnovers in the consolation game of the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament at the Junker Center. Junior forward Christine Slater paced Grove City with 14 points while senior forward Laura Miller fired in a dozen points. Freshman guard Brittany Wenzell recorded a season-high 11 points and senior forward Krista Beechy added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Amy Oldach led the Lions with 15 points while Kelly Nowacinski added 14 points.

Bethany 79, Alma (Mich.) 69

CINCINNATI — Sophomores Anne Wilson and Katelynn Hackathorn each scored 16 points to lead Bethany in the consolation game of the Mount St. Joseph Tournament. Leading 42-31 entering the second half, Bethany kept the pressure on as two free throws from sophomore Audra Droginske and a jumper by freshman Kayla Taormina pushed the BC advantage to 15 in the opening minute. A few minutes later, sophomore Anne Wilson canned a trey, which was followed by back-to-back triples from Droginske to swell Bethany’s lead to 59-37 with 15 minutes left.

Mount Union 83, Notre Dame (Ohio) 74

WOOSTER — All five Mount Union starters scored in double figures in the opening game of the Nan Nichols Tournament at The College of Wooster. Sophomore guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in a first half that saw Mount Union run out to a 22-8 lead to start the game. The Raiders led 70-53 when Notre Dame railled with a 21-9 run to close the gap to 79-74 with 37 seconds to play before Mount Union hit four of six free throws to end the game. Tracy Payne had 14 off the bench for Notre Dame (1-1).
