Thanksgiving services At area churches

Area churches and ministries plan Thanksgiving services.

Abundant Life Fellowship: Churches and residents in the Crestview School District will celebrate a community Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the fellowship, 46469 state Route 46. Members of the six churches within the district will take part in the service, sponsored by the 4C’s, which is Crestview Churches Community Concerns, a service group that helps residents with food, clothing, utility payments, rent and other assistance. With a “Psalms of Thanksgiving” theme, the service will feature lay readers and speakers from each church who will share parts of the Psalms as they relate to thankfulness. A worship team composed of members of the various churches will lead music throughout the service. An offering will be taken for the 4C’s. The other 4C’s churches are East Fairfield United Methodist, Middleton Friends, New Waterford United Presbyterian, New Waterford United Methodist and Zion Lutheran. Refreshments will be served afterward in the church social room. The public is invited.

Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church: “Oh Give Thanks” celebration is planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 1210 Himrod Ave., Youngstown. Pastor Michael Lamont Miles, senior pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, will be the speaker. The fellowship consists of Elizabeth MB Church, Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Metropolitan Baptist Church and New Birth-Kimmelbrook Baptist Church.

Nativity of Christ Church: A Divine Liturgy is planned at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at the church located at the corner of Miller Street and Gibson Avenue in Youngstown.

North Lima Mennoite Church: North Lima Mennonite Church: A community Thanksgiving service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, 90 Mennonite Drive, North Lima. Contemporary song and scripture will be featured along with a multi-media presentation and special music by the Good News Blenders and message by Pastor Russ Witkowski of Cornerstone Assembly. An offering will be taken for the local food pantry.

Our Lady of Hungary Church: An ecumenical Thanksgiving service and celebration of Hungarian heritage is planned at 5 p.m. Nov. 29 at the church, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave. A special harvest social with homemade soups and desserts will follow in Mindeszenty Hall.

Truckers 4 Jesus Ministry: The Truckers 4 Jesus ministry will have its regular Thursday evening services at the Petro Truck Stop in Weathersfield Township on Thanksgiving Day. The services, which include worship in music and a message, start at 7 p.m. in the truck stop theater. Everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments and snacks are provided. Westminster College: Westminster College’s Chapel Office will host a community Thanksgiving worship service featuring pastors from area churches at 7 p.m. Sunday in at 7 in Wallace Memorial Chapel. Worship participants from Westminster include the Rev. James Mohr, chaplain; the Chapel Gospel Choir directed by Manny Henderson and Chapel Praise Team. Those attending are asked to bring canned goods that will be collected for the evening offering. A fellowship reception will be at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church immediately following the service.

Greater Austintown town Ministerial Association: A service is planned at 7 p.m. Sunday in the cafetorium at Austintown Middle School, 800 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Rafael Cruz, pastor of Unity Baptist Church in Boardman. who leads a street ministry in Youngstown called Jericho Project. Also participating in the service will be the Rev. Sidney Byrd, 90, a retired American Indian pastor from South Dakota. Featured music will be by a choral group of students from Austintown Middle School directed by Craig Carson. Congregational singing and worship will be led by Bob Beals and the praise team of Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
