Pet Expo to promote responsible ownership

NILES — Pet lovers, animal aficionados and their four-legged friends may want to set aside some time this weekend to sniff out the Northeastern Ohio Pet Expo at the Eastwood Expo Center.

Coordinated by Judi Henninger and Yvonne Rentz of FFR Promotions of Niles, the expo will promote responsible pet ownership and provide animal education.

“We have found that there are so many different types of pet owners. ... I think [the pet show] is going to be a very educational and enjoyable show, one that people won’t want to miss,” Henninger said.

One of the first major pet events to come to the area, Henninger said, the expo will offer more than 50 exhibitors, including pet groomers, trainers, pet food manufacturers and pet photographers. Attendees are encouraged to bring their pets.

Guests can have their pet photographed with Santa Claus. Henninger said the photos make great holiday cards and gifts.

Doris Straka, a northeast Ohio animal translator, will have seminars on overcoming bad habits, identifying pain and discomfort, understanding likes and dislikes and identifying behavior causes.

Straka will offer insight to help owners improve their relationship and communication with their pets, said Henninger.

The expo also will offer a petting zoo with a wide array of cats, dogs, fish and birds.

Henninger said the expo is also a timely opportunity for pet owners to shop for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts for their animals or for other pet lovers. The expo will include several exhibits offering a variety of pet merchandise and pet products. Some items will be available at special pricing opportunities, she said.

A pet fashion show at 1 p.m. Sunday will include the latest pet fashions, and groomers will be available. Goodies from pet bakeries will be available, and pets will be able to sample various pet foods. A wide range of “people” food also will be available.

Area veterinarians will attend to offer medical advice. Completing the circle of life, information will also be available about pet cremation and ways to memorialize a pet’s life after death, Henninger said.
