Closing statements

WARREN — Closing statements will be delivered at 9 a.m. today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court in the trial of Oryan Miller, charged with complicity to murder, complicity to aggravated robbery and complicity to aggravated burglary.

Miller’s lawyer did not call Miller or any other witnesses after the county prosecutor completed the state’s case Tuesday afternoon.

Miller is accused in the murder-robbery that killed Cameron Murray at Murray’s Sandpiper Trail apartment in Howland on Dec. 23, 2008.

Road in Canfield closed

CANFIELD — Neff Drive in the city will be closed to through-traffic starting at 7 a.m. today. The roadway will remain closed to traffic until Thursday afternoon. The road is closed to facilitate the replacement of a storm-sewer crossing on Neff Drive.

Home invasion thwarted

YOUNGSTOWN — An observant neighbor helped stop what would could have been a home invasion.

According to police, an East Judson Avenue man locked up his South Side home and left the property just after 10:30 a.m. Monday, noticing a group of males standing on the sidewalk near his home. The man told police he had been away from the house only minutes when a neighbor called his cell phone and said the men were at a side door trying to kick the door in.

The man returned to his home and saw the men still trying to kick the door down. The men ran down Judson. The would-be thieves did not enter the house.

School board meeting

YOUNGSTOWN — The meeting of the Youngstown Academy of Excellence School Board will be today at 3:30 p.m. at 1408 Rigby St.

School locked down

WARREN — Willard K-8 School was locked down for a while around noon Monday out of safety concerns.

A Virginia Beach man reported that a man he knows fired two gunshots at him in the driveway of 1935 Willard Ave. S.E., just north of the school, which is at 2020 Willard Ave. S.E.

The 23-year-old victim said the shots were fired from a small, silver gun and missed him but hit the house about five minutes before noon. The suspect got into a black sport-utility vehicle and drove away.

Six-vehicle accident

WARREN — Four people were cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance and one was cited for driving under suspension in a six-vehicle accident at 5 p.m. Monday on Youngstown Road near Kenmore Avenue Southeast.

Three people were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and three others sought treatment on their own, Warren police said. None of the injuries was serious.

A driver was stopped in westbound traffic waiting to make a left turn into a grocery store when the vehicle behind it stopped suddenly, triggering a chain reaction that involved six cars crashing into the back and front of each other, police said.

Minor damage was done to the first and second cars, but the third, fourth, fifth and sixth cars were disabled and had to be towed.
