Meeting to address rising crime in Warren

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — The South West Neighborhood Association, along with clergy, residents and the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods, will have a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss concerns associated with rising crime in Warren’s neighborhoods.

It will be at New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, 1590 Tod Ave. S.W.

A panel of clergy and residents will call for “professional accountability” among area business owners.

The Rev. Robert Stringer, pastor of New Freedom, said businesspeople need to address loitering and criminal activity around their stores. Attendees expected to attend include Mayor Michael O’Brien, Safety-Service Director Doug Franklin and building official Chris Taneyhill.

Meeting organizers will request that city officials commit to establishing a fully functioning grocery store on the city’s southwest side.
