Motor Trend picks Ford Fusion as car of the year

DETROIT — The Ford Fusion is Motor Trend magazine’s car of the year.

The 2010 Fusion beat out 22 competitors, including the redesigned Toyota Prius, the BMW 7-Series and the Chevrolet Camaro.

Motor Trend says the midsize Fusion offers good performance, comfort and fuel-efficiency. It praised Ford Motor Co. for offering several versions of the Fusion, including a fuel-efficient hybrid and a sporty version with a V-6 engine.

Ford, Subaru and VW top safest-vehicle list

WASHINGTON — Ford, Subaru and Volkswagen sit atop the insurance industry’s annual list of the safest new vehicles, according to a closely watched assessment used by car companies to lure safety-conscious consumers to showrooms.

The Virginia-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded its “top safety pick” today to 19 passenger cars and eight sport utility vehicles for the 2010 model year.

Ford’s recipients include the Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS passenger cars and the Volvo S80 and C30 passenger cars and the XC60 and XC90 SUVs.
