Sewer project finalized well under estimate
STAFF report
WARREN — Following a trend, the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s Department completed a $2 million Newton Township sewer project for about $732,513 less than estimated.
The savings will be passed along to the 65 property owners in the Scott Street area being assessed for the project, said Rex Fee, executive director of the department.
“These people will see a considerable savings,” Fee told Trumbull County commissioners at their regular meeting last week.
The estimated cost of the project to the affected property owners was $31.75 per month for 20 years. Fee said he doesn’t know yet how much that cost will drop.
The construction and engineering costs of the project were estimated at $2,026,847. The end result cost was $1,294,334, Fee said, though a few relatively small items still have to be figured in before total cost to property owners can be computed.
The Scott Street project was one of a couple of recent projects to come in well under estimate, Fee said.
“A lot of contractors are just trying to keep their people busy, not so much to make a big profit on the job,” Fee said.
State grants of $790,000 and $980,000 and a zero-percent-interest loan of $495,253 were secured to help pay for the project.
