HUBBARD — The 18th annual Youngstown Police Department Charity Golf Outing to benefit the American Cancer Society youth programs will take place June 26 at Pine Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St.

At noon the four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start. The cost is $300 per team, or $75 per person. Those who are unable to find four for a team will be paired with others to form a team.

The cost includes greens fee, golf cart, lunch, a steak dinner, skins, prizes and beverages throughout the day.

“We see the Youngstown Police working daily to prevent and stop crime so we can live in a safe environment,” said Al Stabilito, Northeast Ohio public relations director of the American Cancer Society. “But the individuals who organize this event also care about helping in our mission to stop cancer. They donate countless hours for this outing. These dedicated men and women provide a great service not only to the community, but in our mission to save lives, too.”

Proceeds from the outing benefit youth programs and services such as the following:

•Coordinated School Health Education — The American Cancer Society partners with schools, community members and local coalitions to promote healthy school environments and healthful lifestyle choices for children in nutrition, physical activity and prevention of tobacco use.

•STAMP (Stay Tobacco-free Athlete Mentor program) — Uses high school mentors to teach younger students prevention of tobacco use.

•Youth Cancer Survivor Scholarship Program — Provides $1,000 scholarships to college-bound students in Ohio, ages 18-25, who were diagnosed with cancer before age 21. Recipients are chosen based on scholastic performance, community service and leadership.

•Transportation — The Society works with community partners to help children and other patients obtain needed transportation to get to medical appointments for treatment and follow-up care.

•Patient Navigator — Assists patients, families and caregivers in navigating systems needed after a cancer diagnosis, such as medical, financial, social and emotional systems. Patient navigators are located in community-based sites such as hospitals and cancer centers.

•Great American Smokeout — An annual awareness day when the American Cancer Society informs youths to never start using tobacco products and encourages adults to stop using them. The event is the third Thursday of November.

This year’s golf outing gold sponsor is the DeBartolo Corporation. Silver sponsors are A.P. O’Horo Company and GLI Pool Products. Golf hole sponsorships are available for a donation of $100.

Organizers of the golf outing are Laura Brown, John Patton, Fred Losasso and Tony Tulipano. For more information or an entry form, call Brown at (330) 742-8718.
