WARREN — State Rep. Tom Letson of Warren, D-64th, will have a dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Warren Community Amphitheatre to rename two local highway interchanges in memory of a pair of local military heroes.

Army Sgt. Robert Carr of Champion and Army Sgt. Marco Miller of Warren will be honored with the designation. Both were killed in action in Iraq.

The Women’s Auxiliary of the Newton Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars will have a reception afterward at the Newton Falls VFW.

“This event is an important occasion for our community, as well as for all of Trumbull County,” Letson said. “It is important to honor our fallen soldiers, who dedicated their lives to serving our country.”

Letson sponsored the designations, and they were approved by the Ohio General Assembly in the last session and signed into law by Gov. Ted Strickland.

The interchange of U.S. Route 422 and state Route 82 in Warren will be dedicated to the memory of Miller, a Warren native and combat cameraman assigned to the 3rd Battalion Support Company, 20th Special Forces Group.

He attended Warren G. Harding High School, where he excelled on the football and baseball teams. Miller, 36, died from wounds during a mortar attack on his humvee in the vicinity of Taji, Iraq.

Carr will be honored with a memorial designation at the interchange of state Route 45 and Route 82 in Champion Township.

Carr, a Champion High School graduate, belonged to the 2nd Brigade, 2/12 Infantry Division. He joined the Army during his junior year of high school, after the Sept. 11 attacks.

He was a member of his high school football team and hoped to one day compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Carr, 22, was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, and state Sen. Capri Cafaro of Liberty, D-32nd, are also scheduled to attend the ceremony.
