Youngstown man accused of robbery

BOARDMAN — A Youngstown man is to return to court next week, accused in a robbery at a U.S. Route 224 shoe store.

Alvin Traylor III, 42, of East Boston Avenue, was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and possession of criminal tools. His preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday in Mahoning County Court.

Police were called about 8:15 p.m. Saturday to Shoe Carnival on a report of a shoplifter fighting with store personnel and running through the store parking lot.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Traylor, ignored repeated police commands to stop. Traylor tried to hide under a vehicle parked outside Verizon Wireless and was arrested, police said.

Traylor complained of being injured and was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. A Shoe Carnival employee told police that he had seen Traylor on store video cameras select a pair of shoes and try to remove the security sensor with a pair of scissors. Traylor carried the box of shoes toward the front of the store and selected five pairs of socks, attempting to hide some of them in his pants. When confronted, Traylor wrestled with the security officer before fleeing the store, a report states.
