Boardman police probe report of counterfeiting

BOARDMAN — Police are investigating a report that two women passed counterfeit money to pay for $350 worth of merchandise at a Doral Drive discount store.

A Wal-Mart store security officer told police that in the early hours of Tuesday, two women bought about $213 worth of merchandise, handing the cashier what appeared to be $215 in cash. Only a $5 and a $10 bill were real, with the remaining counterfeit, a police report said.

One of the women then came back and bought a $175 store gift card, with $150 of it paid in fake bills.

Last week, someone used fake $100 bills at the Cinemark Tinseltown and Movies 8 movie theaters. Target and Sam’s Club also have received fake money in recent weeks.

Under the formal count, the vote tallies were Apple, 308; Collian, 253; Brown, 217; and Schory, 212.

Woman attacked in yard

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for a man who cut a West Side woman, possibly in an attempt to stop her from testifying in court.

A 28-year-old North Evanston Avenue woman told police she walked into her backyard just after 11 p.m. Wednesday to give water to her dogs when a man jumped out from behind a shed and began cutting her with a box cutter.

According to police, the man cut the woman several times down the right side of her neck. The man reportedly told the woman, “You’re not to testify against Will tomorrow at the grand jury,” before jumping a fence and running off.

The woman was expected to testify before the grand jury Thursday in a domestic- violence case.
