Pizzaro’s three-hitter helps lead Campbell

STRUTHERS — Raul Pizzaro pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Campbell High baseball team, which rallied for nine runs in the sixth inning to spill Girard, 9-2, in a Division III district semifinal Tuesday at Cene Park.

Josh Gore had a double, single and three RBIs and Dave Bennedis two singles and three RBIs to spark Campbell (14-4), which advanced to play Champion tonight at 6:30 at Cene Park Field 1 for the district championship.

Campbell and Champion split a pair of regular-season games this season.

Pizzaro (5-1) held Girard to single runs in the first and seventh inning, while the Red Devils unleashed a 12-hit attack.

Pat Rhodes, who relieved starting pitcher Ryan Kirkpatrick in the sixth inning, took the loss for Girard (14-6).

Garfield Hts. Trinity 4, Ursuline 0

EUCLID — Shawn Roman doubled and Paul Kempe had two hits for Ursuline, which managed just three hits in a Division III district semifinal loss.

Roman and Jimmy Mszanski combined on a six-hitter but it wasn’t enough for the Irish (10-11), who had won three straight district crowns.

Regular season Fitch 7, Boardman 5

AUSTINTOWN – Ricky Segesto had two doubles, a single and three RBIs and Nick Crum two singles and two RBIs to lead Fitch in a Federal League game.

Tony Koch added a pair of singles for the Falcons (15-8, 8-5 FL). Anthony Savko (2-2) got the mound win for Fitch with relief help from Segesto and Tyler Hartman. The trio pitched a six-hitter. Dan Popio had a double, three singles and two RBIs to spark Boardman (4-7 FL),

United 3, Mineral Ridge 0

MINERAL RIDGE — Corey Myers pitched a four-hit shutout with four strikeouts and three walks to lead United. Austin Creer added three hits and Taylor Phillips had two.

Anthony Pannunzio struck out four and walked two in a complete game loss for Ridge.

Southeast 10, Akron Springfield 5

AKRON — Anthony Pennington had four hits, including a homer, Tyler Ralston singled and homered and Eric Fleming added two doubles for Southeast in a Portage Trail Conference game.

Softball Regular season Champion 9, Berkshire 0

BURTON — Lindsay Swipas (8-5) tossed a three-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and no walks to lead Champion, which broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning. Tawny Rogers had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for the Flashes (18-5), while Ashley Rable had four hits and two RBIs.

Heather Snyder (13-5) had three strikeouts and four walks in a losing effort for the Badgers (13-6).

Sebring 5, McDonald 3

McDONALD — Taylor Ward struck out five over five innings to get the win for Sebring (12-11, 9-4 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two). Jillian Faudree added two hits and scored a run. Kaitlyn Rutushin struck out 12 and walked two over seven innings for McDonald.

Southeast 2, Akron Springfield 0

AKRON — Shannon Hamilton singled, doubled and drove in a run and Kayla Williams tossed a five-hit complete game shutout to lead Southeast (17-5, 12-2 PTC Metro).
