Gunshots at parked cars leave boy injured

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A 12-year-old sustained a minor scalp laceration when numerous gunshots were fired in the 400 Block of Crandall Avenue Monday afternoon, striking two parked cars, including one containing the juvenile and his mother. The mother told police she had just pulled into a driveway when two men leaned out of the passenger window of a jeep-type vehicle and began shooting. She said she and her son ducked down and the rear window of her vehicle exploded and the windshield shield splintered and cracked. She estimated 20 to 25 shots were fired.

Also damaged in the shooting, reported about 4:10 p.m., was a car owned by the occupant of the home in front of which the shooting occurred. The occupant said she heard multiple shots and came out of her home to find 13 shotgun pellet holes in the front bumper of her car, the radiator leaking coolant and the left front tire flat. Police recovered a 20-guage shotgun shell casing at the scene.
