Coitsville Seniors to meet

COITSVILLE — A meeting of Coitsville Seniors will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Coitsville Town Hall. Gerri Salaka will have devotions, and there will be card bingo, a 50-50 raffle and a celebration of birthdays and anniversaries. Pizza will be served. Organ society dinner

Forum Health speaker visits Rotary Club

AUSTINTOWN — Patricia Hrina, public relations officer at Forum Health, was the featured speaker at the May 3 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown.

She noted that Forum has 4,000 employees at five locations and is the second-largest employer in the valley. There are 83 medical residents on the staff, with 33 more scheduled to arrive in July to replace those who are graduating.

Vegetarian cooking class

BOARDMAN — A free vegetarian cooking class, sponsored by the Evergreen Seventh-day Adventist Church, will be offered from 4:30-to 6:30 p.m. May 31 and June 14 in the social hall at 7668 Glenwood Ave., next to the public library.

State Senator visits Austintown Growth

AUSTINTOWN — Joe Schiavoni, state senator to the 33rd District encompassing Mahoning and Carroll counties and portions of Stark and Tuscarawas counties, recently attended a meeting of Austintown Growth, where he expressed his views on area economics.

Schiavoni is pushing for more area businesses and welcomes ideas and suggestions for better growth.

In answer to questions submitted by David Ditzler, president of Austintown Growth and Austintown trustee, Schiavoni said he would look into the gas tax allocation and distribution in different townships.

Kiwanis hosts guest at early May meeting

CANFIELD — The featured guest at the May 6 Kiwanis meeting was Don Taylor, president of Air Machines, Inc. of Youngstown.

The company began as Taylor Westfield in 1958, selling and repairing Comp Air Tools, a line of pneumatic tools.

In 1985, Air Machines became the U.S. repair center for Com Air Tools. Soon after, Taylor bought the company, based in England, and has made it a very successful worldwide business.

Annual Turtle Derby

LOWELLVILLE — The Youngstown Lions Club’s 48th annual Turtle Derby is scheduled for June 22 at E. Water Street, during the car show. This is the Lions Club’s major fundraiser, which enables members to help many worthy causes during the year.

Highway Tabernacle plans Father’s Day golf outing

SALEM — Highway Tabernacle is sponsoring a Father’s Day weekend golf outing June 20 at The Flying “B” Golf Course, 13223 W. Middletown Road.

Play will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start and will include 18 holes of golf, a cart, dinner and refreshments. There will be a $10,000 hole-in-one prize, a first-place cash prize of $600, and a second place cash prize of $300. The entry fee is $60.

Sponsorships available include the following: The Nehemiah, $500; Project Sponsor, $275; Team Sponsor, $240; and Program Sponsor, $50.

Friends of museum sponsor Lawnfield tour

WARREN — Friends of Sutliff Museum will sponsor a bus tour to the home of President James A. Garfield in Mentor on June 24. Featured will be stops at historical sites in the area and a lunch at the Hometown Buffet.

Departure will be at 9 a.m. from Wal-Mart on Elm Road and the return will be at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $42 and includes transportation, driver’s tip, admissions, tour guides, snacks and bottled water on the bus.
