Ohio secretary of state to speak at luncheon

YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat running in 2010 for the U.S. Senate, will speak at the May 29 Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber luncheon, which starts at 11:30 a.m., at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road.

Brunner will discuss what she’s done to strengthen the election process in the state as well as her reasons for running for the Senate seat currently occupied by Republican George V. Voinovich. Voinovich isn’t seeking re-election next year.

‘Buy a Brick’ fundraiser

POLAND — The Poland Touchdown Club is sponsoring the “Buy a Brick” fundraiser for the entranceway at the new Poland Seminary High School Stadium.

The brick orders that are submitted by June 1 will be engraved and installed before the 2009 season opener scheduled for Sept. 11. Orders received after that date will be installed on a periodic basis.

Bricks can contain up to three lines, 20 characters per line, in a 4-by-8-inch space. The cost of each brick is $75.

‘Refuse to Be a Victim’

GIRARD — A “Refuse to Be a Victim” crime seminar will be from 1 to 3 p.m. June 6 at First Christian Church, 130 E. Broadway Street.

The seminar will address personal-safety strategies, home auto and travel security, and personal-protection devices.
