Surprise party honors Burtons on anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — Friends and relatives gathered at Alberini’s Restaurant in Warren at 6:30 p.m. April 24 to honor Mr. and Mrs. Richard Burton, 879 Fairfax St., during a surprise party arranged in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Hostesses for the festivity were their daughters, Pamela Parks of Odenton, Md., and Deborah Webster of Youngstown, and the couple’s goddaughter, Lavern Clark of Youngstown.

The former Della M. Mathews and Mr. Burton were united in marriage on April 25, 1959, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Sharon, Pa. They are members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and have three grandchildren.

In 1993 Mrs. Burton retired from St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she was a nurse.

Mr. Burton served as a tank commander with the U.S. Army. He was employed as an electrician and retired from General Fireproofing Co in Youngstown in 1984 and from Packard Electric in Rootstown in 1997.
