Girl injured in East Side fire today
YOUNGSTOWN — An electrical short caused an early morning fire today that sent one 12-year-old girl to the hospital.
Firefighters were called to 1328 East High Avenue just after 2 a.m. for a fire in an upstairs bedroom. According to fire reports, the blaze started when an electrical outlet shorted and set a nearby bed on fire.
A 12-year-old girl was sleeping in the bed near the outlet, but was awakened by the heat from the fire. A blanket on the bed adhered to the girl’s legs. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
Damages were isolated to the bedroom area and ceiling on the lower level. No damage estimate was given, and no report was available on the girl’s condition.
