Child falls from window

Thursday, March 26, 2009

AUSTINTOWN — A toddler fell from the window of a second-floor apartment. The mother of the 19-month-old, Danielle Jones, 19, called 911 just before 10 p.m. Sunday because he had fallen from their Compass West Drive apartment. She told police she had opened the living room window because a bag of popcorn had burned. Jones said she went back into the kitchen to throw the bag away and saw the toddler, Khorey Spivey, standing on the couch, under the window. She said she saw him fall through as he leaned into a broken screen.

Jones told police she ran outside to find her son standing, crying and holding his head. She said she carried him back inside and called police for help. The child was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown; a condition report was not available.

Jones told police she’d previously reported the broken screen to the apartment complex’s maintenance department. She was not charged.
