Moore of Boardman, Halfhill of Canfield lead All-Ohioans

Both girls have made verbal commitments.

As expected, juniors Darryce Moore of Boardman and Jillian Halfhill of Canfield received the highest honors among area players on the Associated Press Division I and II All-Ohio teams, announced Monday.

Moore, who stands 6-foot-2 and who has verbally committed to Ohio State, was named to the second team in Division I. She averaged 16.8 points per game for the Spartans, who finished the season 16-8 and district runners-up.

Halfhill (5-6), who has verbally committed to Bowling Green, was named to the second team in Div. II. She averaged 19.4 points per game for the Cardinals, who won a district championship for the second consecutive year and finished 16-9.

Named to the third team in Div. II were Salem junior Amy Scullion and Southeast senior Mya Levels, while Dana Mathews of Struthers and Emilee Zets of West Branch were selected honorable mention.

Also in Div. I, Kelly Barzak of Howland was named honorable mention.

Pickerington Central’s Emilee Harmon, a 6-foot-3 senior who averages 19.7 points a game, shared player of the year honors in the big-school division with Kendall Hackney of perennial power Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame. Hackney, a 6-2 senior, averaged 12.8 points a game and again has her team back in the state tournament.

The honorees in Div. II were Kari Daugherty of Warsaw River View, a 6-2 senior who scored 25.1 points a game, and Mylan Woods of Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown, a 5-11 junior good for 16 points a game. Daugherty and Brown have also led their teams to the state tournament this weekend at Ohio State’s Value City Arena.

The coaches of the year in Div. I were Erin Fragale of Delaware Hayes and Eastlake North’s Paul Force, with Tiffin Columbian’s Larry Kisabeth and Canton South’s Kevin Meers taking the honors in Div. II.

The All-Ohio teams in Div. III and Div. IV will be announced today, and the Ms. Basketball winner will be revealed on Wednesday.

The state tournament gets underway on Thursday with the semifinals in Div. IV and Div. III, with the semifinals in Div. II and Div. I scheduled for Friday. The championship games will be played on Saturday.
