Rapper wants teachers to cherish rap, not fear it
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum invited recent inductee Darryl McDaniels — part of legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC — to rap with teachers attending the rock music shrine’s annual Summer Teacher Institute.
The workshop that wrapped up Friday encouraged teachers from across the nation to find ways to use pop music to connect with their students.
McDaniels says he returned to Cleveland to encourage teachers to cherish rap as an education tool — and not fear it.
Jaya Neal, 33, a Cleveland teacher, says she regularly uses rap songs in her classroom to motivate her students to talk about their lives.
