DOCTORS

Denise M. White, formerly of Boardman, has received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine.

She has started a pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. During her time at the University of Cincinnati, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, was awarded the Joseph Collins Humanities Scholarship and served as an officer in the American Medical Association as well as the American Medical Women’s Association. She also received a grant for Otolaryngology research at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in 2006.

Dr. White is a 2001 graduate of Boardman High School and a summa cum laude graduate of John Carroll University, Cleveland, in 2005, where she received a bachelor’s degree in classics.

While at John Carroll, she received a research grant for molecular cardiology research at the Cleveland Clinic and was awarded the Charles A. Castellano Classics Scholarship, Boyd Porter Memorial Liberty Arts Scholarship and the Rev. Terence H. Ahearn S. J. Award for Outstanding Pre-Health Profession’s Student. She was also a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society), Alpha Epsilon Delta (premedical honor society), Phi Eta Sigma (National Honor Society) and actively participated in her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma.

She is the daughter of Dennis C. and Michelle M. White of Canfield.

Daniel Zapko has received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Toledo’s College of Medicine.

A 2001 graduate of Canfield High School, he is the son of Richard and Karen Zapko of Boardman.

He completed his undergraduate work at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology magna cum laude.

At the University of Toledo, Dr. Zapko was a member of the American Medical Student Association. He will complete a medical residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. He lives in Parma Heights with his wife, Jamie.

LAWYERS

Matthew Banks of Liberty has passed the Michigan State Bar Examination and has been sworn in to practice law.

Banks is a 2000 graduate of Liberty High School, where he was an honor student. He graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 2004, with a bachelor’s degree in biology, and from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich., in September 2008.

He was an honor student in Moot Court. He was a senior member of Mock Trial. He was the seventh-best advocate in Intra School Moot Court Competition and received a certificate of merit in Moot Court Class. He was a member of the Black Law Student Association.

He is a first lieutenant in the Marine Corps and is a graduate of the Officer’s Training School in Quantico, Va.

He will be working at the Judge Advocate General Center in Cherry Point, N.C.

He is the son of Alfred Bright, professor of art at Youngstown State University, and Dr. Dee Bright and Atty. Kenneth Banks.

Edward A. Itayim, formerly of Liberty, has graduated from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Mich., where he earned his juris doctorate degree.

Itayim, a 2000 Liberty High School graduate, received his bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in political science in 2005. While at Thomas M. Cooley, he was on the law review, the Moot Court Board and the National Appellate Team and graduated cum laude. Atty. Itayim was sworn in to the Ohio State Bar Association and has a private practice in Columbus.

He is the son of Edward Itayim Sr. of Liberty and the grandson of Nahiem and Arefeh Itayim of El Birah in the Palestinian territories, and William and Anna Belle Miller of Boardman.
