Summer’s shutout helps 1080 Media clinch


STRUTHERS — Justin Summers struck out 12 men and drove in the only run of the game with a fourth-inning single as 1080 Media clinched the Cene Division with a 1-0 victory over Wharmby Sports in Class B action Friday at Cene Park.

Summers (3-2) did not walk a batter as he scattered seven hits. No Wharmby runner reached third base.

Dan Popio had two hits for 1080 Media (20-4).

Evan Anzio had three hits for Wharmby Sports (17-7), while Ryan Ward (3-2) tossed a complete game with three strikeouts to get the loss.

Dave Sugar Excavating 11, Youngstown Express 1

Joey Borrelli had two hits and drove home three runs while Dan Calai tossed the first 42‚Ñ3 innings for the win, his fourth in seven decisions, to lead Dave Sugar (12-12).

Calai had five strikeouts.

Jon DeAmicis (3-5) went four innings, allowing five runs (two earned) and suffered the loss for the Express (6-18).

OTN Performance 8, Action Physical Therapy 1

Collin Bowser struck out nine in six innings to lead OTN Performance.

Bowser (2-1) allowed only four hits and one run for OTN (13-11), while Joe Sekula had a pair of hits for the winners.

Zack Merrell (0-4) went the distance with six strikeouts for Action Physical Therapy (3-21).

Roth Brothers 8, Astro Falcons 1

Roth Brothers broke a nine-game losing streak and kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating the Astro Falcons.

Roth (9-15) remains three games behind Dave Sugar Excavating for sixth place and the final playoff spot.

Kyle Kesner tossed a complete game and also had three hits for Roth.

Bubba Uhlman had three hits while Matt Harmon, and Dan Mioni had two hits each for the winners.

Mioni addded three RBIs.

Mike Natale had a single and a double for the Astro Falcons (16-8).
