The Boardman Drama Guild and Boardman Community Theatre will present “Honk!,” a musical based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale “The Ugly Duckling,” this weekend.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday at Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave., Boardman.

“Honk!” tells the story of an odd-looking baby duck named Ugly, played by Jon Gluckner, who is attempting to find his mother, Ida, played by Amanda Myhal.

Ugly is lured away by a cat but escapes and attempts to return home. Along the way, he encounters a beautiful swan with whom he falls in love.

Eventually, Ugly’s mother finds him frozen in the snow. Her warm tears thaw him and he springs to life as a handsome swan and is reunited with his swan girlfriend.

The cat is played by Kiyan Taghaboni, and the swan is played by Brittany Burin.

“Honk!” is being directed by David Mullane, Jeannine Hodge, Marlene Strollo and Courtney Crossen, with musical direction by Errol Kehrberg and Ed Phillips and choreography by Hodge.

Costumes and sets, including a revolving stage, are under the helm of Mullane, David Liptak and Crossen.

The band includes members of the Boardman Band and Orchestra program.

Tickets are $12 ($10 for seniors; $9 for students and children) for premium seats; and $10 ($9 for seniors; $7 for students) for reserved seats.

To purchase tickets in advance, go to boardmandramaguild.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.
