Reported injury shuts down Kings Island roller coaster

CINCINNATI (AP) — Kings Island amusement park near Cincinnati has shut down its popular Son of Beast roller coaster while officials investigate a report of a head injury.

Ohio Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Kaleigh Frazier says a woman informed Kings Island officials June 16 that she had been hurt during a ride May 31. The department handles amusement ride inspections in Ohio.

Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig said Monday the park closed the wooden coaster immediately after the woman’s complaint. He says he doesn’t know why she waited but says Kings Island takes all guest comments seriously.

It’s unclear when the ride will reopen.

The Son of Beast was shut down for nearly a year after a July 2006 accident that sent 27 people to the hospital.
