Deluge soaks Valley, cuts power, floods areas


YOUNGSTOWN — Most parts of the Mahoning Valley received 1 1/2 to 2 inches of rain as of 8 p.m. in one of the heaviest thunderstorms to hit the area this year.

There’s still more rain to fall, but it should “quiet down” by about 10 p.m., said Karen Oudeman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The rain has caused flooding in the area, and the weather caused power outages in Boardman and Girard.
