Baptist college claims bias by education group

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A small Baptist university in Ohio says an education group’s criticism of the school amounts to religious discrimination school.

Cedarville University in western Ohio has been censured by the American Association of University Professors for firing a tenured faculty member. The group says the employee, now suing the university, wasn’t given due process.

In an e-mailed statement, Cedarville spokesman John Davis responds that the association has historically demonstrated bias against religious schools and the censuring is consistent with that.

The association scoffs at the school’s claim, noting that one of its investigators in the Cedarville case is a professor at Calvin College, a religious school in Grand Rapids, Mich.
