Recent rankings of the Mahoning Valley:

Today: The Brookings Institution said the Youngstown metropolitan area ranks 90th out of 100 in its economic performance.

Last week: Forbes ranked the area as one of among 10 cities “with the longest road to recovery” from the national economic recession.

December 2008: Forbes ranked Austintown as the No. 5 fastest-dying town in the nation.

August 2008: Forbes said Youngstown was among the top 10 fastest-dying cities.
