Boardman jazz group plans August concerts

BOARDMAN — Boardman High School’s summer jazz ensemble will perform three free concerts in August: Aug. 4, Boardman Park; Aug. 10, Westminster College; and Aug. 23, Mill Creek Park’s Morley Pavilion.

The music of Tower of Power will be a big part of the repertoire, but director Thomas M. Ruggieri has added other favorites from past years.

“It’s the energy and quality of the group that makes the performance,” said Ruggieri. “Even if you don’t know some of the songs we play, you will still be entertained by the level of musicianship of my students and by the exciting arrangements.”

Ruggieri said he strives to make connections between music and listener. He will include many vocal selections.
