STAFF REPORT

BUTLER, Pa. — United Way of Butler County is now accepting applications for projects for its 14th annual Week of Caring.

The event begins in conjunction with the National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sept. 11 and resumes Sept. 14-18.

The Week of Caring is a weeklong volunteer event that mobilizes hundreds of people in Butler County to complete hands-on projects to benefit the nonprofit community.

This year, the Week of Caring is in conjunction with President Barack Obama’s service initiative: a sustained, collaborative and focused effort to meet community needs and make service a way of life for all Americans.

Nonprofit organizations, parks, schools, churches and municipalities are invited to submit projects to be completed by volunteer teams. Preferably, projects are to be designed to promote education, financial preparedness, health and/or connecting people to services.

Last year, approximately 340 volunteers from more than 58 businesses, agencies and labor unions completed seven projects throughout Butler County. The efforts of the volunteers provided more than $31,000 in free labor.

For a project-application packet, or for more information about the Week of Caring, contact the United Way by calling (724) 285-4883 or by e-mailing impact@butlerunitedway.org.

The deadline for projects is Friday.
