Here is information on a number of college scholarship opportunities, both general and targeting various special interest groups:

Farrell and Greenville, Pa.: The UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship Fund is accepting applications from local medical school students Feb. 15 through April 15. Students must have completed their fist year of an allopathic or osteopathic medical school to be eligible. Youngstown: The Regional Chamber is seeking applicants for the 2009-10 ATHENA Scholarship to be awarded at the 17th annual ATHENA Award Dinner on May 21. The $1,500 scholarship has been established to further the goals of the ATHENA mission to advance women’s leadership and promote education. Applications, due by April 1, may be found on the Chamber’s Web site at www.regionalchamber.com. Applicants must be a resident of the Mahoning Valley, a high school senior planning to attend or already enrolled at Youngstown State University or Kent State University’s Regional Campuses (East Liverpool, Salem or Trumbull) or a student currently enrolled full- or part-time at Youngstown State University or Kent State University’s Regional Campuses.

Youngstown: National College is accepting applications for the Chairman’s and President’s Scholarship awards funded by the college and given to select graduating seniors of accredited secondary schools who will attend National College. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2009. Up to 20 Chairman’s Scholarships of $2,500 and up to 20 President’s Scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to students attending any of National’s 25 campuses in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Indiana. Youngstown: The American Cancer Society, Ohio Division, is offering Youth Survivor College Scholarships to young cancer survivors to assist them in their pursuit of higher education. This year’s scholarship application deadline is Feb. 27. In 2008, $1,000 scholarships were granted to 66 college-bound cancer survivors from across Ohio. Applicants must be residents of Ohio, a United States citizen, diagnosed with cancer before age 21, under the age of 25 at the time of application and plan to attend an accredited university or community college in the United States. All scholarships will be awarded based on scholastic performance, community and American Cancer Society service and leadership. Youngstown: The Diversity Leadership Recognition Scholarship at Youngstown State University recognizes minority students whose leadership in activities and/or organizations promotes inclusiveness on campus and in the community. Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students with a minimum GPA of 2.7 and be a resident of Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull, Mercer or Lawrence county.
