Roberts, McKnight guide Akron past Toledo

TOLEDO — Darryl Roberts and Brett McKnight put up 12 points apiece with solid free-throw shooting to lead Akron to a 70-61 victory over Toledo on Wednesday night.
Roberts went 6-of-7 from the line and McKnight shot 3-for-4 as the Zips (12-8, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) ended the night with four players in double figures. Nikola Cvetinovic had 11 points, and Chris McKnight added 10 points and grabbed six boards.
Toledo (4-16, 2-4) fought back in the second half from a 9-point deficit to within one, but the Rockets couldn’t sustain the comeback. Tyrone Kent tallied 19 points to lead three Toledo players in double figures. Justin Anyijong had 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds, and Larry Bastfield also had 10 points.
Akron’s bench outscored Toledo’s, 29-17. The Zips also capitalized on Toledo’s mistakes, scoring 26 points on turnovers compared with the Rockets’ 13.
Bowling Green 62, Ball St. 58
BOWLING GREEN — Otis Polk had 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting as Bowling Green held on late.
Ball State (9-9, 4-2 MAC) used a 9-2 run to pull within one point with 3:41 left to play. But Nate Miller scored on a three-point play and the Falcons went up 57-53 with 2:33 on the clock, and the Cardinals were unable to pull off the comeback.
Bowling Green (10-9, 3-3) had the lead through the entire game, their largest 26-15 with 3:54 left in the first half. Ball State scored on six of its next seven shots to cut the lead to 32-28 at the break.
Ball Sate was led by Jarrod Jones’ 15 points, and Brandon Lampley added 12 for the Cardinals.
Bowling Green made 17 of 26 free throws, while Ball State went 6-of-9 from the foul line. The Falcons shot 50 percent from the field, and Ball State shot 49.2 percent.
No. 10 Xavier 69, Charlotte 47
CINCINNATI — B.J. Raymond scored 23 points and Kenny Frease added 17 points as Xavier won its ninth straight.
C.J. Anderson had 10 points for Xavier (18-2, 6-0 A-10), which limited the 49ers to just four field goals in the first half.
The Musketeers outrebounded Charlotte 48-28.
Charlotte (6-13, 1-5 A-10) was led by senior Charlie Coley who scored 12 points.
Cincinnati 65, No. 25 Georgetown 57
CINCINNATI — Deonta Vaughn scored 20 points, and Cincinnati extended Georgetown’s midseason misery by sending the Hoyas to their fourth straight loss.
Chris Wright scored 15 points for Georgetown, which saw its usually dependable defense fold down the stretch. Cincinnati shot 45.8 percent from the field.
