Canfield, Howland wrestlers prepare for a key dual match


CANFIELD — What might be one of the best Eastern Ohio Wrestling League Division I dual matches in recent years, Canfield High School (2-1) will take on unbeaten Howland (3-0) on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Cardinals’ gymnasium.

If Canfield wins, it will share the regular-season EOWL title with Fitch (3-1) and Howland. Boardman and Beaver Local each have 0-3 records.

A couple of key matches will be the 112-pound weight class with Canfield’s Alex Benedict (23-7) going against Howland’s Kyle DeCennza (22-6) and at 119 pounds, Ryan Kellerman (27-5) of the Tigers takinhg on Robby Reed (23-8) of the Cardinals .

Some other athletes to watch will be Canfield’s Aaron Brenner (27-5), 152 and Cody Hartman ( 22-8), 189.

Howland athletes expected to do well are Brett Bishop (14-9), 125; Andy Cornicelli (16-5), 140; Kyle Leek (21-1), 145; Robby Klose (14-8), 152; and Bryce Tricker (15-7), 171.
