For Selena Class, series of 680 is a little bundle of joy

Pregnancy and panic usually go hand-in-hand at home, in the car and in the delivery room.

But not in bowling.

Selena Class’ case was different because she used a Panic bowling ball while five months’ pregnant when she rolled a 680 series in Mixed Bankers at Holiday on Jan. 4.

The performance was notable because the score was the best-ever by a woman in the league which is approximately 30 years old.

Her career-high 680 was aided by a 246 game. The Panic is a product of Columbia 300.

“I don’t recall any other woman having that high a set,” said secretary Jeanette Crawford, who has been in the league almost 25 years.

Crawford’s best guess is that a 601 or 605 series was rolled a couple years ago.

Class received the Panic as a Christmas gift in 2007 from her boyfriend, Jeff Gill.

“He’s on the same team with me,” said Selena, a 1997 Boardman High graduate who now lives in Salem.

Gill witnessed Class’ 680, but didn’t say anything about the ball possibly helping.

“He did try to say it was because I was pregnant,” said Selena, who added, “He thinks that’s the reason I’m bowling better.”

Also on the team is Selena’s brother, Rob.

“It’s a four-person team, but we’re short one now.”

In the eight-team Mixed Bankers League, Selena Class’ 174 average is the highest among the dozen women in the league. Her previous high set was 650.

Mixed Bankers was originally sponsored by Mahoning Bank before a merger. It used to be an employees’ league, Crawford said.

Class is an example of a bowler who works elsewhere: the Midlothian Blvd. Walgreen’s.

Three 800s were rolled in Belchyk/Action Plumbing Classic at Holiday with Nick Evans getting 823, John Doughton 812 and Nick Gabrick 801.

Evans and Gabrick had 300s, as did Kevin Stout.

A pair of 800s by Ron Jones (822) and Dan Montemarano (804) and 300s by Bob Eisenbraun Jr., Jeff Wellington and Jim DeMain were bowled in Variety Mixed at Holiday.

Rich Kady rolled his third 300 of the season in Charlie’s Service at Holiday on Jan 13.

Carl Hurd had an 11 strikes-in-a-row 290 as a member of his CQ Pro Shop Camelot team in Pioneer Men at Wedgewood on Jan. 15.
