The fiscal officer left to take a job in the Trumbull County engineer’s office.

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township Trustee Fred Bobovnyk resigned effective at noon Tuesday to apply for the fiscal officer’s position.

William Miller, trustee vice chairman, said trustees will deal with the unexpected resignation of Bobovnyk at a special meeting next Wednesday when a 9:45 a.m. executive session on personnel and 10 a.m. caucus are scheduled.

Trustee Chairman James Stoddard is on vacation until the beginning of next week.

Bobovnyk, 72, said he had to resign as trustee because he could not apply for the position of fiscal officer and be a trustee. He had served 12 years.

David Rouan, fiscal officer, has resigned the position effective Feb. 2 because he has been appointed director of administration and government offices for David DeChristofaro, Trumbull County’s new engineer.

Rouan was first appointed fiscal officer in 1990. The position pays about $21,000. He had served one year into his new term of four years. Whoever is appointed by the trustees must then run in the November general election in order to complete the term.

Deadline for applications to fill the fiscal officer’s position was 4 p.m. Tuesday, and two applications were received, one from Bobovnyk and one from Richard Harkins, a former township zoning commission member.

Bobovnyk’s current four-year trustee term ends this year. His position would have been up for re-election anyway for a new four-year term, starting Jan. 1, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2014.

Trustees must either appoint a new trustee or one will be appointed by the court.
