Salem center schedules trekking, spinning events

SALEM — Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave., will offer free trekking demonstrations at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Trekking is a simulation of hiking through mountainous countries. The class is led by an instructor who guides you on treadmills as you complete your interval training. No registration is needed.

A second event at the center is a Hawaiian Spin, which will take place from 1-2 p.m. Sunday. Participants will spin to Hawaiian music and enjoy some fresh fruit during class.

The cost for SCC members is $6 a class, and for nonmembers, $7 a class. Class pass is welcome.

Gold Wing Riders plan monthly meeting

BOARDMAN — The Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter M, of Austintown, has scheduled its monthly meeting for Saturday at the Yankee Kitchen, 6655 Market St.

Dinner will be at 5 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 6.

Montessori School joins Pennies for Peace

YOUNGSTOWN — Montessori School of the Mahoning Valley has teamed with hundreds of other Montessori schools across North America to participate in Pennies for Peace.

Pennies for Peace, a program of the Central Asia Institute, educates children about the world and shows them that they can make a positive impact on a global scale, one penny at a time.

All Montessori schools will combine their pennies, and the donation will be presented to Greg Mortensen, founder of Pennies for Peace and author of the best-seller “Three Cups of Tea,” at the American Montessori Society annual conference late February in New Orleans.

The school, 2008 Lynn Ave., is accepting pennies on site and in marked collection jars through Jan. 27.

Toy drive at day care

AUSTINTOWN — Expand Your Wings Day Care Center, 132 Westchester Drive, is having a toy drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as an autism benefit.

Canfield Jr. Women will host wine taste

CANFIELD — The Junior Women’s League of Canfield presents its 4th annual Wine and Cheese Taste, benefiting Kids Grieve Too, from 5-8 pm. Feb. 28 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St., Boardman. Tickets cost $30. Call (330) 565-1959.

Bingo party scheduled

AUSTINTOWN — A bingo party will take place at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Serbian Orthodox Center, 420 N. Raccoon Road.
