VIENNA — A 17-year-old Youngstown girl was killed Sunday night in a crash on state Route 11 as area roads turned icy.

Alyssa Emrich died at the scene after her car slid through the meridian near King Graves Road in Vienna Township about 7 p.m. Her car was struck by an ambulance headed in the other direction, the state highway patrol said.

Jessica Gardener, 30, of Farmdale, who was driving the Johnston Township ambulance, and a passenger were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.

The patrol and the state police in Pennsylvania reported numerous accidents about 7 p.m. as a light snow began falling throughout the area. Reports indicated that Interstate 80 in Mercer County and the intersection of Route 11 and Interstate 80 in Trumbull County had multiple accidents at about that time.
