Lawrence commissioners raise taxes and wages

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Lawrence County Commissioners have raised county property taxes by 0.95 mills.

The increase amounts to 95 cents for every $1,000 of assessed value. The increase would cost the owner of a $100,000 house an additional $95 per year.

It will bring in an additional $3.23 million to the county which struggled to avoid a deficit this year, officials said. The total general fund budget, which pays for county government, is $26.2 million, a fourth-tenths percent decrease from 2009.

In other business at their meeting Thursday, commissioners said they will also give all county employees 3 percent raises.
