YOUNGSTOWN — Police said a Cherry Hill Avenue man was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery in the assault and robbery of a man accosted outside the Western Reserve Transit Authority bus terminal.
Tyrone Thomas, 21, was arrested when he returned to the terminal about an hour after the robbery, police said.
The victim told police that he went to the bus station to pick up a friend around 9:15 p.m. Monday but was confronted by two men, one of them carrying a handgun, as he was about to enter the building.
The men forced him back into his car and ordered him to drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Griffith Street, where they ordered him out of the car and beat him, the victim told police.
The men then took his car and fled, he said.
Police said the victim was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center for facial injuries.
Investigating officers went to the bus terminal and were reviewing surveillance recordings around 10:10 p.m. when Thomas, identified as one of the men involved in the robbery, walked into the building.
He was arrested without incident and lodged in the Mahoning County jail, where he remained overnight Tuesday.
