CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

“The WOW Club.” The W.O.W. Club (Warren Library on Wednesdays) is a new two-part program for ages 6 to 12 years old. “Stories and Stuff” features great stories and creative projects and will be on the first Wednesday of each month. “Booked on Wednesdays” will be on the third Wednesday of each month. Each month will feature a different popular book genre and fun activities. Registration is required for each program by calling ext. 401. Main, 4 p.m. Jan. 6 and 20.

“Library League.” This “adventures in reading” program brings books to life. For kindergarten to fourth grade. Registration is not required. Howland, 3:30 p.m. Jan. 8 and 22.

“Tween Craft Time.” A theme-based craft program especially for ages 6 to 12 years old. Howland, 2 p.m. Jan. 9.

“Picture Book Pizzazz!” Every January, one new picture book is awarded the Caldecott Medal. Children can join us to share great books and vote for their favorite of 2009. Pizza, punch, and picture books for ages 6 to 12. Registration begins Jan. 4 and is required by calling ext. 401. Main, 6 p.m. Jan. 11.

“Preschool Storytime.” Preschool storytime features stories and a craft related to a theme. For ages 3 to 5. Registration is not required. “Music and Movement.” Children learn language and motor skills through an energetic combination of music, movement, and literature. For ages 19 to 35 months old with parent or caregiver. “Reading and Other Forms of Art.” The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library and the Butler Institute of American Art offer a unique blend of art and books during this interactive family program. Children’s librarians will present stories, and art educators from the Butler will present a companion craft. For ages 5 to 10 with an accompanying adult. Trumbull, 2 p.m. Jan. 16.

“Got Game?” Join us at the library for a rockin’ good time as we play an assortment of games (High School Musical: Sing It!, Naked Brothers Band, and more). Have a handheld gaming system like PSP or Gameboy? Bring it with you. Kids in grades three to six are invited to drop in any time between 5 and 7:30 p.m. Liberty, Jan. 21.

“Teen Central Idol.” The prize in this contest just for teens goes to the worst singer! Main, 6 p.m. Jan. 11.

“Teen Central Anime.” Opportunity for teens to view and discuss this increasingly popular format. Main, 3 p.m. Jan. 14.

“Teen Advisory Board.” For Trumbull County teens in grades 7-12 who have an interest in helping the library develop and promote programming and resources for teens. Main, 2 p.m. Jan. 16.

“Author of “LeBron James: The Rise of a Star.” Join sportswriter David Lee Morgan Jr., a Warren native, as he discusses his books. Morgan, a sportswriter for the Akron Beacon Journal, gives an inside look at the rise of basketball’s hottest prospect, a story for any fan who wants to get to know LeBron better and for anyone curious about how a high school basketball phenom is made. “Genealogy Workshop for Beginners.” Learn the resources available at the Local History & Genealogy Center in the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. Registration is required ext. 402 to sign up. Main, 10 a.m. Jan. 14.

“Book Discussion Group.” Read this month’s featured book, “Olive Kitteridge,” by Elizabeth Strout then join in a discussion of the novel led by a reference librarian. Main, 2 p.m. Jan. 14.

“Tales to Tails.” Sign up to read to a registered therapy dog, which helps develop reading skills, promotes confidence and encourages a love of reading.
