Woman’s body found

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s office is investigating the death of a 60-year-old woman whose body was found by a mail carrier on the porch of a dental lab at 15 E. Midlothian Blvd. and reported to police shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday.

Dr. Joseph Ohr, forensic pathologist and deputy coroner, told police the death may have been natural because he saw no sign of a struggle and no defensive wounds on the body.

The deceased was identified as Patricia Hightower, whose last known address was on Pineview Avenue, but the police report said she appeared to have been homeless when she died. Her body was found lying on top of, but not wearing, her coat, and the contents of her purse were strewn across the porch.

The coroner’s office moved the body to the morgue at Oakhill Renaissance Place.

Pa. dog licenses

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Dog owners across Pennsylvania are reminded to apply for mandatory 2010 dog licenses before the Friday deadline, Deputy Secretary for Dog Law Enforcement Jessie Smith said.

State law requires that all dogs 3 months or older be licensed by Jan. 1 each year.

An annual license is $8, and a lifetime license is $51. If the animal is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6, and a lifetime license is $31. Discounts are available to older adults and people with disabilities.

Failure to license a dog could result in a maximum fine of $300 per dog.

More than 930,000 licenses were obtained in 2009.

License applications are available at county treasurer’s offices. A list of county treasurers and a downloadable license application is available online at www.agriculture.state.pa.us under “Forms.”

2010 park reservations

BOARDMAN — Beginning Monday, the township park will accept reservations for its indoor meeting room, open-air pavilions and St. James Meeting House.

The park accepts reservations one year in advance. Starting Jan. 4, reservations will be accepted for dates still available in 2010.

The first two weeks of January are set aside for township residents only to make reservations. Boardman residents also receive a discount on the reservation fees for the facilities.

Because of increasing popularity, it is important to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Over the last 60 years, “The Green Oasis” has been home to weddings, graduation parties, baby showers, business meetings and family picnics.

Reservations can be made by calling the park office at (330) 726-8105 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reservation requests also may be submitted via the park’s Web site, www.boardmanpark.com.
