Census: Ohio still one of country's slowest-growing states

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Ohio is still in danger of losing two congressional seats as new Census numbers show minimal population growth.

Figures released Wednesday show the state growing by only 14,573 or little more than one-tenth of a percent.

Over the past decade, only five other states grew more slowly than Ohio, which has about 11.5 million residents.

Gov. Ted Strickland has warned Ohio could lose two of its congressional seats next year when the 2010 Census is completed.

Sun Belt states continue to gain the most in population, but two northern Rocky Mountain states, Wyoming and Utah, are growing the fastest.
