Michigan State hands St. Bonaventure 1st loss

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Allyssa DeHaan scored 18 points and No. 16 Michigan State handed St. Bonaventure its first loss with a 67-59 victory on Monday night.
Kalisha Keane and Lauren Aitch each scored 11 for Michigan State (9-3).
Megan Van Tatenhove scored 19 for St. Bonaventure (11-1). Dana Mitchell added 18.
Michigan State scored eight straight points to open a 55-44 lead with 6:30 remaining. DeHaan capped the surge with a jumper.
The Bonnies, who were facing a ranked team for the first time this season, closed to 61-59 on an Andrea Doneth free throw with 1:12 left. But DeHaan responded with a jumper with 57 seconds remaining.
Michigan State led 35-33 at halftime.
No. 8 Duke 75, Maine 34
ORONO, Maine — Karima Christmas and Bridgette Mitchell each scored 16 points and Duke cruised past Maine, giving coach Joanne P. McCallie a victory in her return to Alfond Arena.
Duke’s full-court trap forced a season-high 34 turnovers and held Maine (2-7) to 30 percent shooting. The Blue Devils (9-2) pulled away with a 24-4 run in the first half.
Before the game, McCallie received a standing ovation from the crowd of more than 3,700 and was lauded for her time with the Black Bears, an eight-year stretch highlighted by six straight NCAA tournament appearances (1995-00), four conference crowns and a 167-73 record.
Maine coach Cindy Blodgett won two NCAA scoring titles while playing for McCallie in Orono.
No. 12 Florida State 83, Hawaii 39
LAS VEGAS — Jacinta Monroe scored 18 points and Alexa Deluzio added 17 points to help Florida State bounce back from its first loss of the season.
Florida State (11-1) won the third-place game of the Duel in the Desert tournament after losing to DePaul on Sunday night.
No. 25 James Madison 85, Longwood 67
HARRISONBURG, Va. — Dawn Evans scored 32 points and had six assists to lead James Madison over Longwood.
She scored 19 of her 32 points for the Dukes (8-1) in the first half and shot 9 for 17 from the floor for the game — including 4 of 9 from 3-point range. She also made 10 of 11 free throws.
Brittani Billups led the Lancers (4-9) with 17 points, one of four Longwood players to finish in double figures. Morgan Smith had 12, Krystal Garrison had 11 and Chelsea Coward added 10.
Sarah Williams scored 13 points for James Madison. The Lancers cut James Madison’s lead to 12 with 5:58 to play, but they never got any closer.
